In the next four months, five tech companies, mainly startups will be a part of an internal accelerator program for a chance at a contract with the airport. These start ups will test out and pilot their ideas in the decommissioned commuter terminal now called “innovation lab”
This 3,500 square foot space will replicate a “mini airport” with check-in counters and a baggage claim area. Here are the five companies in the program
Baggage Nanny: customers can book curbside pickup of their bags online
ParkConnect: People will be able to list their parking spots and earn money from bookings (think Airbnb for parking spaces)
TravelCar: Car sharing app that let fliers “park for free” by opting to rent out their vehicles to other travelers while they’re away
VarkValet: They seek to mondernize the valet business by doing everything electronically.
FreedomPark: A valet parking and rental car valet service from Irving, Texas.
This innovation lab has been already used for San Diego startup AtYourGate, a food ordering app that will get food delivered directly to your gate within 20 minutes. They received $2 million in seed money and do about 50-75 orders per day after seven months of operation.
This wave of startups and innovation will hopefully make traveling a bit easier!
